SEE-TEL works in four diverse districts across the state of Missouri, including urban, suburban, and rural communities. Together, these communities include settled second-generation refugee families, especially from Bosnia; newly settled refugees from Syria, Somalia, Sudan and many other spaces; Mexican and Central American migrants, who come directly from their countries of origin to Missouri, or from other areas throughout the U.S.
Each partner school district offers various programming for their students designated as English Learners (ELs), including two-way immersion bilingual programs (where students from English- and Spanish-dominant homes are mixed together, with goals of all students attaining proficiency in both English and Spanish); pull-out courses focused on English Language Development; sheltered content courses for designated ELs, especially at the secondary level; and co-teaching, where content or elementary homeroom teachers work alongside TESOL-certified teachers to support their culturally- and linguistically-diverse students.
