Strengthening Equity and Effectiveness for Teachers of English Learners

April 19, 2021

SEE-TEL Does a ‘Virtual Pivot’ in Response to COVID-19

The Strengthening Equity and Effectiveness for Teachers of English Learners (SEE-TEL) grant team and its partner districts alike many faced unique challenges during 2020 as COVID forced all of us to transition quickly to a different mode of teaching and learning. Fortunately, SEE-TEL was in large part prepared for this challenge due to the pre-pandemic development and implementation of seven TESOL online certificate courses. Under the leadership of Drs. Kim Song and Lisa Dorner, the team further segued smoothly to a Virtual Summer Institute. Since then, SEE-TEL has provided monthly professional trainings for SEE-TEL teachers and coaches to highlight critical content and helpful technological tools for supporting the virtual teaching environment. The response from SEE-TEL teachers and coaches has been very positive…

I will say that it made me hyper-aware of everybody else’s situations…all the things about being an advocate, about being an ally… So I think that it made me more empathetic.

It is important to take care of yourself in order to take care of others.
